Jiri to Everest Base Camp

Description:

Trip Cost: US$2021

Everest Area trek now starts and ends at the Lukla airfield; this was not the case when the trekking started in the Khumbu area. First trekker in the early sixties hiked almost all the way from the Kathmandu Valley, and after the road to Jiri was finished in March 1985 the standard EBC trek started from there. After the Lukla landing strip was paved in 1999 and the number of trekkers multiplied, most having not enough time or inclination to make the complete 3-4 week hike from the road head, Jiri-Namche trail was almost forgotten and many splendid lodges are waiting for tourist of the trail.
The reason to do this trek is, more complete experience of the hill life in Khumbu valley. All the villages along the way are "real" in the sense that they are not just lodge clusters serving trekkers, but live societies with farming, schools, shops and monasteries. Follows the classic Everest expedition route through hill village where the scenery and way of life is typical of most of rural Nepal. Lots of climbing as the route crosses several ridges separated by deep river valleys. An excellent trek that offers a chance to acclimatize before heading to Everest Base Camp or Gokyo.
